The event, which brought together all members of the Americas, featured the leaders of the five Latin American countries for the first time.
The HSMAI (Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International), an international association focused on the development of executives and professionals in the hospitality and tourism industry, held its Leadership Conference, an event that brings together more than 100 Managing Directors and Board Members from the Americas to strengthen their mission and define their objectives and strategies for the year. Held in Orlando, United States, this was the first edition to feature leaders from all five Latin American countries.
“Participating in this meeting alongside the association's leaders in Latin America, two years after our expansion, was an enriching experience. The event was extraordinary, full of networking and learning, reinforcing our commitment to driving industry growth and strengthening our presence in the sector,” explains Gabriela Otto, president of HSMAI Brazil and Latam.
The event also marked the first strategic meeting with the participation of the association's new President and CEO, Brian Hicks, appointed in 2024, who arrives with renewed energy to advance HSMAI globally.
The two days of content were marked by important highlights that will guide the global hospitality industry. Check out the key takeaways:
- Value your team – It's important to recognize the diversity of perspectives to see things you can't perceive. Listen to those who work with you!
- Leadership with purpose – Leaders must remember that people care about their own image and purpose. Professionals expect opportunities to elevate their skills within the company.
- Consumers are looking for more than just products, they want experiences. – Customers expect to be treated as individuals, not just numbers. Respect and personal appreciation generate loyalty and connection with the brand.
- The 3 Es of vocational training – Education: Formal teaching and lifelong learning. Experience: Practical, everyday learning. Exposure: Networking, new ideas, and personal development.
- Principles of Leadership – The order of priorities in business should be: 1) Leadership, 2) Strategy, 3) Profit. The corporate culture should make everyone feel important.
- The Magic of Leadership: The Watch Model – Words (Words); Actions (Actions); Thoughts (positive mindset); Company (being surrounded by the right people); and Heart (Compassion and empathy).
During the meeting, the organization also defined its main strategies for the year. In 2025, HSMAI aims to increase engagement by enhancing and providing education, recognition, and networking opportunities for members and stakeholders; expand its reach by supporting and developing its membership base; develop leadership talent and resources by supporting the growth of the Foundation's Corporate Talent Partnership Program and its involvement in the Centennial Campaign; and work with the global council to identify strategies to strengthen the brand globally.
“In 2025, HSMAI Brazil and Latam remain committed to elevating the caliber of Sales, Marketing, Distribution, and Revenue Management professionals in the Latin American hospitality industry, promoting initiatives that attract new talent, develop emerging leaders, and develop valuable talent for the industry,” Gabriela concludes.
